Sergeant Major Christian M. Hutson

Christian Hutson was born in Brooklyn, New York, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 2006. He reported to recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation, he reported to Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Upon completion of MCT, he reported to Marine Detachment Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, Virginia, where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 3381.

Following subsequent training, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California. Due to the frequent combat deployment rotations, Private First Class Hutson was transferred from Headquarters and Service Company to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07.2 in Al Qaim, Iraq. On 1 February 2007, Private First Class Hutson was promoted to Lance Corporal. On 2 June 2007, Lance Corporal Hutson was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal. Following his assignment with Alpha Company, Corporal Hutson was reassigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 08.3 in Fallujah, Iraq. Following his assignment with Charlie Company, Corporal Hutson was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company as the Field Mess Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge. During this time, Corporal Hutson supported the battalion throughout multiple field exercises in preparation for deployment with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

On 1 October 2009, Corporal Hutson was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During this period, Sergeant Hutson was selected for a year-long deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sergeant Hutson received orders to the G-3, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Division-level Combat Operations Center during the deployment. Following deployment to Afghanistan, Sergeant Hutson returned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, and continued serving with the Alpha Raiders until July 2011, when he received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, for Drill Instructor duty.

During this tour, he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor. On 2 January 2014, Sergeant Hutson was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Hutson trained over 1,100 recruits, 45 drill instructors, and completed 11½ cycles as a Drill Instructor.

In September 2014, he received orders to Headquarters Regiment, Food Service Company, Camp Pendleton, California, where he served as Platoon Commander for 1st and 4th Platoons. In July 2016, Staff Sergeant Hutson received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 15 as the Battalion Mess Chief for the 15th MEU. In June 2017, Staff Sergeant Hutson deployed and served as the lead Staff Non-Commissioned Officer aboard the USS Pearl Harbor. During this time, Staff Sergeant Hutson filled various billets, including Chief Instructor for Corporals Course, Lance Corporal Seminar, and Martial Arts Instructor.

In February 2019, Staff Sergeant Hutson received orders to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, MCB Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan, to serve as a Quality Assurance Evaluation Inspector. In July 2019, he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant. Gunnery Sergeant Hutson subsequently reported to Camp Mujuk, Korea, where he served as the Mess Hall Manager from July 2019 to February 2020. In March 2020, Gunnery Sergeant Hutson was hand-selected to serve as the MCIPAC Operations Chief, overseeing all training for more than 1,200 MCIPAC personnel.

In March 2021, Gunnery Sergeant Hutson was competitively screened and selected to serve at Marine Corps University, College of Enlisted Military Education, Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy Okinawa. He served as a Faculty Advisor and Chief Faculty Advisor for the Career School.

On 1 January 2023, Gunnery Sergeant Hutson was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, for duty as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader of Weapons Company. Following a successful work-up, deployment with the 31st MEU, redeployment, and second work-up, First Sergeant Hutson received orders on 7 January 2025 to report to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 for duties as the Unit Senior Enlisted Leader of Engineer Company, where he supported a squadron deployment in support of Balikatan 25 and Exercise KAMANDAG in the Philippines. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed by the Commanding Officer of MWSS-373 to serve as the acting Sergeant Major.

In November 2025, First Sergeant Hutson was selected for Sergeant Major and was promoted on 1 March 2026. He subsequently received orders to 3d Littoral Combat Team, where he currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

Sergeant Major Hutson’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one silver star in lieu of sixth award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, and the Good Conduct Medal with one silver star in lieu of sixth award.
