3rd Marine Littoral Regiment was activated on March 3, 2022, on Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. 3rd MLR was redesignated from 3rd Marine Regiment and inherits the lineage of that storied regiment. The Marine Littoral Regiment, as a part of the Stand-in Force, disrupts the adversary in a contested littoral environment through reconnaissance, counter-reconnaissance, and sea denial operations in order to support the maritime campaign.

3rd Marine Littoral Regiment is contributing more than 1,300 Hawaii-based Marines and Sailors for the 41st iteration of Exercise Balikatan, an expansive multilateral exercise conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military across the Philippine archipelago from April 20 to May 8.
