A native of Bend, OR, Lieutenant Colonel Todd Hoyt graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2004 and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve and as a third in the U.S. Merchant Marines. He continued to sail on commercial vessels until 2007, when Lieutenant Colonel Hoyt completed Officer Candidate School and accepted a Marine Corps commission. He attended The Basic School (TBS) in August 2007 and was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 0402, Logistics Officer. Upon graduation from TBS, he attended the Logistics Officers Course (LOC) at Marine Corps Service Support Schools, Camp Johnson, NC.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoyt was assigned to First Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (1st LAR) as the Motor Transportation Platoon Commander. Shortly after his arrival at 1st LAR, Second Lieutenant Hoyt deployed to Al-Anbar Province, Iraq in September 2008
supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon redeployment in April 2009, he worked as the Assistant Logistics Officer and Battalion Logistics Officer. In May 2010, he deployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Upon redeployment in December 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Hoyt moved to 1st Marine Logistics Group as the Company Commander for Landing Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 17. During this time, he attended Airborne school and received a secondary MOS of 8023.
While at Landing Support Company, he was deployed with the first iteration of the Retrograde and Redeployment in support of Reset and Reconstitution Operations Group (R4OG) to Afghanistan from April 2012 to April 2013. Throughout that year, he was the Company Commander for teams at Camp Dwyer and Camp Leatherneck.
In July 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Hoyt was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California where he completed Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS), earned his Master of Business (MBA) degree in Materiel Management, and was awarded the secondary MOS of 8862.
After graduation from NPS in 2016, he reported to the Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM) in Albany, GA where he worked within the material management division and the G3 Fusion Cell until 2019. While at MARCORLOGCOM, he completed the Marine Corps Command and Staff College distance education program. Upon departing MARCORLOGCOM, Lieutenant Colonel
Hoyt traveled to the United Kingdom to attend the UK's Advanced Command and Staff College (ACSC) where he earned a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies through King's College, London.
In August 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Hoyt reported to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) Special Operations Capable (SOC) where he served as the Logistics Officer. While assigned to the 26th MEU(SOC), he supported multiple Marine Corps, Joint, and NATO training exercises, deployed to Ft. Pickett, Virginia in support of Operation Allies Welcome (OAW), and deployed on the USS BATAAN
with the BATARG for an eight-month deployment into CENTCOM and EUCOM.
In June of 2024 Lieutenant Colonel Hoyt reported to the 3d Littoral Logistics Battalion to serve as the Commanding Officer.
